Alp Maran Is Arriving This Week!

Posted by Sonja Hoffmann on

Some cheeses are good. Some cheeses have a story. And then there'sย Alp Maran.

I'm excited to announce that our new batch of Swiss Raclette from Alp Maran is arriving this week. For customers who have been waiting all year, your patience is about to be rewarded. And for those who have never tried it before, now is the perfect time to discover why this cheese has become one of the most talked-about seasonal arrivals at RacletteCorner.

What Makes Alp Maran So Special?

Alp Maran is located above the mountain resort of Arosa in Graubรผnden, Switzerland. Every summer, about 400 cows graze on alpine meadows at elevations exceeding 5,500 feet, feeding on fresh grasses, wildflowers, and herbs. The milk is transformed into cheese the very same day it is collected, preserving the flavors of the alpine landscape in every wheel.

This is possible because Alp Maran still practices transhumance, the centuries-old tradition of moving cattle to high mountain pastures during the summer months. It is one of the last places where this way of life continues, and the resulting cheese reflects the land, the season, and the craftsmanship behind it.ย

Through the Adopt-an-Alp program, we've been able to support this unique tradition while bringing a truly authentic Swiss alpine raclette to our customers in the United States. Alp Maran has been part of the RacletteCorner family since 2018, and every year I look forward to seeing the first wheels arrive.ย

A Favorite in the RacletteCorner Community

When we first introduced Alp Maran, I knew it was something special. What surprised me was just how quickly our customers fell in love with it.

One customer described the flavor simply as:

"If home had a flavor, this would be it."

Another called it:

"6 out of 5 stars."

Others praise its rich flavor, smooth melt, and the way it develops those irresistible crispy edges that raclette lovers treasure.ย

Over the years, Alp Maran has become one of the clear favorites of the RacletteCorner community, with many customers returning season after season to secure their share before it sells out.ย

What Does Alp Maran Taste Like?

Unlike mass-produced raclette, Alp Maran has a character that changes slightly from year to year, depending on the summer grazing season. Expect a cheese that is:

  • Buttery and creamy when melted
  • Rich but balanced
  • Slightly nutty
  • Fresh and clean tasting
  • Delicious both melted and enjoyed cold on a cheese board

The fresh alpine milk gives it a depth of flavor that reflects the grasses, flowers, and herbs growing in the mountains around Arosa.ย

Available for a Limited Time

Because Alp Maran follows the rhythm of the seasons, availability is limited. The cows spend the summer on the alp, the cheese is made and aged, and once it's gone, we have to wait for the next season.ย

If you've enjoyed Alp Maran before, you know not to wait too long. If this will be your first time trying it, I think you'll quickly understand why so many customers mark their calendars for its annual return.

The wait is almost over. Alp Maran arrives this week, and I can't wait for you to taste this year's batch.

Happy Racletting!
